Assessment Statuses

Use this reference data to add and manage statuses that can be associated with a learner assessment.

Assessment Statuses reference data

The fields on the Assessment Statuses screen are described in the following table.

This field Holds this information...
Status The status code for the assessment.
Short Description The short description of the status.
Long Description The long description of the status.
Active Whether the assessment status is actively available.
Contributes to Outcome As various assessments are marked throughout the life-cycle of a course occurrence (UIO), a calculation can be made in ebs at course level as to the percentage of assessments that have been marked and confirmed against their weightings towards the final course outcome. You can specify at which status level an individual assessment is included in this calculation by selecting or deselecting this check box.
Viewable by Learners In ebs: ontrack Teaching and Learning, application learners can view their results online. Institutions can specify at which status level learners are able to see their assessment records online by selecting or deselecting this check box.
Linked Role If a linked role is attached to this assessment status, only users with this role can progress to or from the status.

The following section describes recommended assessment status reference data:

It is recommended that the following assessment statuses are created for BTEC Level 3 courses:

  • Pending
  • Open
  • Checked
  • Endorsed
  • Released

Each assessment result has a status value that defines whether:

  • An assessment result in the given status can contribute to the unit or component outcome result
  • An assessment result in the given status is viewable by a learner

It is expected that an assessment result will progress through various statuses during its life-cycle, as assessment result statuses are changed either when assessment results are set in the Markbook module or set manually in the Assessments grid in ebs: central.

A representative set of assessment statuses and accompanying flags is defined as follows:

  • Open
    • Active = Y
    • Contributes To Outcome = N
    • Viewable By Learners = N
  • Pending
    • Active = Y
    • Contributes To Outcome = Y
    • Viewable By Learners = N
  • Checked
    • Active = Y
    • Contributes To Outcome = Y
    • Viewable By Learners = Y
  • Endorsed
    • Active = Y
    • Contributes To Outcome = Y
    • Viewable By Learners = Y
  • Released
    • Active = Y
    • Contributes To Outcome = Y
    • Viewable By Learners = Y

The corresponding institution settings for results are:

  • Default assessment marked status: Pending
  • Default assessment unmarked status: Open

Note: If you want to avoid bulk updating assessment statuses in the Assessments grid in ebs: central to Contributes to outcome, it is recommended that the default outcome marked status is set to Contributes to outcome.
